Alan Mercer: How did you get started in Pageantry?
DeeAnna Krier: In 2019 my youngest daughter went to an open call for National American Miss. She was selected to go to the Texas State Pageant and made it all the way to Nationals in Los Angeles, California. The experience was so positive and so much fun, it woke up a childhood dream in me. In 2020 she challenged me to go for my dreams. I googled senior pageants and sent out applications and didn't hear a word for about 6 months due to Covid delays. Three systems selected me to compete, and I chose the Ms. Senior World pageant and became Ms. Senior World North Texas in 2021. Now in 2022, I was selected as Ms. Achievement Texas 2022, open to ages 21 and over, and will compete for the international title, Ms. Achievement World 2023 on Saturday, July 23rd.
AM: Where is the Ms. Achievement World pageant held?
DK: The home office is in Kentucky, owned and operated by Dr. Diana Lawerance. Dr World Productions-Dr World/Dr America/Dr USA/Ms Achievement. The pageants are virtual.
AM: Oh wow! That's great!
DK: This is so exciting for me! I submit all my videos and resumes online by July 1st, 2022. Then on morning of July 23rd, 2022, I along with all the other ladies will be interviewed by 5 to7 judges. They will have already reviewed and judged all the submissions, and they will add the scoring of the live interviews and one will be chosen Ms. Achievement World 2023 later that evening. The pageant will be live on Facebook for everyone to view.
AM: How are you preparing for July 23rd?
DK: I'm working hard. It's a passion not a labor. I've been enrolled in an online academy, "How to Win a Pageant" for about 14 months. I have learned so much from Alycia Darby and her coaches!
AM: Like what?
DK: How to dress, how to do my hair and makeup, how to define my platform and brand. Most importantly, the skills of being interviewed. I am prepared.
AM: That’s good. What do you love most about all this?
DK: I love what I'm accomplishing through this system and love what the pageant stands for.
AM: And what does it stand for?
DK: It stands for education, mentoring and community service. Their moto is, “Because smart is beautiful.” I am here to educate others about my profession, community service and mentoring activities before and during my reign as Ms. Achievement Texas.
AM: What is your community focus?
DK: My community focus is the City of Weatherford, Parker County Children's Advocacy Center, Parker County Center of Hope, Parker County Committee on Aging. These wonderful centers are helping every age group there is and hosting all kinds of entertaining events to bring help, knowledge, food, supplies and counseling to those in need. I enjoy bringing worldwide attention to them in hopes of inspiring other cities, states, and even countries to do the same.
AM: What is your platform?
DK: Prosper your neighbor, Prosper yourself. I teach if you care more about your neighbor's success, then you will be more successful. I'm a Christian woman and this is the scripture Mark 12:31 Jesus teaches "Love your neighbor as yourself." This was also taught to me by experience.
AM: Give me an example.
DK: My husband and I opened our own BBQ restaurant and people would ask me if we were doing enough business, because they never saw very many cars in our parking lot. I would then drive around other restaurants in our vicinity and see multiple cars parked in front of them, along with customers walking in and out. I was disappointed ours wasn't busy like theirs were. I sat in my car, and I heard God whisper in my ear, "Don't be jealous or envious. Be happy for them, be thankful your neighbors are prospering. Help them be MORE prosperous and then you, DeeAnna will prosper." From that minute on, I gave without keeping track and our restaurant became a favorite in our community, state, nation, and world.
AM: What do you recommend for people who want to help their community in the same way you are, but don't want to go the pageant route?
DK: Walk out your front door, look at the houses and or businesses around you and start there, serve your neighbors. Get to know them. Visit over a warm meal you’ve prepared for them and plug in. Invite them to church or invite them to join you in volunteering at the local community center. It’s all about bringing life, light & love, like scripture reads, “Love your neighbor as yourself."
AM: Congratulations! When you win the title of Ms. Achievement World, what are your plans?
DK: Continue growing my education, experiences, and self-care program. Self-care is number one because you can't help others if you're unhealthy. My plans are to travel more and give motivational truths of "How to keep your business open as long as your heart desires." Along with continuing a very strong presence on social media and adding a YouTube channel to spread my message, I will be interviewing other business owner's and sharing their strategies. Winning the title is my goal, no matter what, moving forward is winning.
